Level up your skin:
the two-minute routine

The skincare industry wants you running ten steps. Your skin needs three jobs done — and two of them fit in one pot.

The NEWD pot open, showing the mineral cream inside

Ask a dermatologist to strip skincare to what actually matters and you get three jobs: keep it clean, keep it hydrated, keep the sun off it. Cleanse, moisturise, protect. Everything else on the shelf — serums, essences, toners, the ten-step routine — is optional at best.

Half the world already runs a daily face routine and has for generations. Most men run nothing. The gap isn’t knowledge, it’s friction: nobody with a 6am start is doing ten steps. So here’s the version with the friction removed.

Morning: wash, NEWD, go

  • Wash — warm water does it for most faces. Use a basic fragrance-free face wash if you’re coming off a filthy job or a heavy night.
  • Protect — one swipe of a daily mineral SPF moisturiser: forehead, nose, cheekbones, ears, back of the neck. Moisture and sun protection in the same thirty seconds. That’s the whole point of the pot — it collapses two steps into one.

Night: wash it off

Before bed, wash the day off — the zinc, the dust, the sweat. Your skin does its repair work overnight and does it better clean. If your face feels tight afterwards, a plain moisturiser at night is a worthwhile third product. If it doesn’t, skip it. You’re done.

Two minutes a day, two products, one of which is water. That’s not a routine, that’s a habit — and habits are the only routines that survive real life.

What you can skip

  • Toners, essences, mists — solutions to problems the products before them created.
  • Anti-aging serums — the single biggest anti-aging measure is daily SPF, and it’s not close. (The evidence.)
  • Anything with fragrance — the most common irritant in the aisle, doing nothing for your skin.
  • Ten steps of anything — if it can’t survive a 6am start, it isn’t a routine, it’s a hobby.

Level up isn’t doing more. It’s doing the two things that matter, every single day, until your skin quietly starts winning — and the years outside stop showing up on your face.
